Largest China-Russia Land Port Reinvents Itself as Industrial Hub

HOHHOT, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 May 2025 – As China’s largest land port, Manzhouli is expanding beyond its traditional role as a “transit station.” By promoting local processing of grain, oil and timber, the city is steadily evolving into a regional industrial hub. An aerial drone photo shows trains for China-Europe freight service at Manzhouli Railway Port in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region At Manzhouli Xinfeng Grain and Oil Industry Co., Ltd., freshly imported rapeseed from Russia is processed on intelligent production lines. From dehulling to pressing, the procedures run smoothly, as golden rapeseed oil gently streams into storage tanks. “As soon as the raw materials clear customs, we go straight into production, operating around the clock,” said Yang Zhihong, deputy general manager of the company. He noted that Russian rapeseed oil, prized for its low acid value and high smoke point, is particularly popular among domestic downstream enterprises. This “Russian supply, Chinese processing” model is fueling a growing shift among local businesses, pushing them beyond mere trade toward more advanced, value-added processing. Yang crunched the numbers. “By importing raw materials through ‘border trade’, a special policy that allows residents in border areas to conduct small-scale cross-border trade under simplified customs procedures, we save an average of 500 yuan (about 69.5 U.S. dollars) per tonne. Since last year, that’s added up to savings of over 8 million yuan,” he explained. This model cuts traditional trade taxes and fees from around 18 percent to less than 4 percent of total costs. It enables enterprises to source raw materials at lower prices, while border residents earn income from the price difference, creating a win-win supply chain involving border residents, cooperatives and enterprises. As of April 2025, “border trade” in Manzhouli has surpassed 100 million yuan this year, with more than 3,600 border residents taking part, generating nearly 2 million yuan in tax revenue to the city. The roaring development of Manzhouli’s timber processing industry goes hand in hand with the grain and oil sector. Since establishing an imported timber processing base in 2003, Manzhouli has continuously focused on deep and fine processing, showcasing the strong potential of its timber manufacturing industry. Located in the Inner Mongolia Manzhouli border economic cooperation zone, the import-export resource processing industrial park processes up to 5.6 million cubic meters of timber annually. It has developed a diverse product lineup, including solid wood furniture, doors and windows, wood pellets, and solid wood flooring. An aerial drone photo shows containers being loaded at Manzhouli Railway Port in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region In 2023, the city’s timber import reached 1.88 million cubic meters, demonstrating the strong momentum of the industry’s growth. Meanwhile, Manzhouli has planned the development of a 2.74-square-kilometer chemical industry cluster within the import-export resource processing industrial park. This cluster will primarily rely on the import of large quantities of liquefied petroleum gas, methanol, and alkanes from Russia to drive integrated new energy chemical utilization and related projects. The cluster will provide high-end, premium chemical intermediates for domestic advanced polymer materials and engineering plastics, injecting new momentum into the city’s economic development. Bai Zhiping, an official from the Manzhouli municipal commerce bureau, said that Manzhouli’s transformation from a “transit station” to an “industrial hub” reflects the development of the port-based processing model. An increasing number of enterprises are moving beyond the traditional “transit economy” and are leveraging the advantages of the border to create a new industrial ecosystem focused on deep processing. In the first quarter of this year, Manzhouli’s import and export freight volume reached 6.53 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 10.6 percent. The value of imports and exports handled by the Manzhouli port reached 47.67 billion yuan, up 6.1 percent year on year. CHAGEE’s Signature Drink Gets a Meaningful Makeover: Introducing BO·YA JASMINE GREEN MILK TEA

In time for International Tea Day on 21 May, CHAGEE reintroduces its bestselling drink — with a new name that reflects its essence. SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 May 2025 – This International Tea Day, CHAGEE unveils a new name for its global bestseller: BO·YA JASMINE GREEN MILK TEA. More than a name change, BO·YA reflects what the tea truly stands for — connection, craftsmanship, and flavour that resonates beyond taste. With over 600 million cups sold annually, this is CHAGEE’s most beloved drink. The new name honours its popularity while shining a light on the artistry behind every cup. A new name for a timeless craft While jasmine green tea is common in Southeast Asia, not all jasmine teas are created equal. Many rely on artificial sprays or oil-based flavourings to mimic fragrance, resulting in tea that smells strong but tastes hollow. BO·YA is different. Crafted using a traditional multi-round scenting method, fresh jasmine blossoms are layered over green tea leaves each night at peak bloom, then removed by hand and replaced over multiple cycles. The leaves absorb not just the scent, but the soul of the flowers — leaving behind no petals, only a naturally layered aroma. The tea itself is a blend of two premium teas: Yunnan high-mountain leaves, prized for depth, and Fujian Da Bai Hao, known for clarity. Every batch is handpicked at the standard of “one bud and two leaves”, then transformed through CHAGEE’s artisan process. A tea steeped in meaning The name BO·YA draws from the Chinese legend of Bo Ya and Ziqi — a musician and woodcutter who formed a rare friendship through deep understanding. Their story inspired the phrase zhī yīn (知音) — someone who truly hears and understands you. Today, BO·YA speaks to that same kind of connection. It’s about discovering something that just clicks — like finding a favourite tea or sharing a quiet moment with someone who simply gets it. More than a drink With the renaming of its most iconic drink, CHAGEE continues its mission to elevate tea culture for a new generation, bridging heritage with modernity. “BO·YA holds special significance to us. It’s more than just our bestselling drink; it reflects what CHAGEE stands for,” said Eugene Lee, Chief Marketing Officer, CHAGEE APAC. “As we expand across the region, we stay rooted in tradition while looking ahead. With BO·YA, we hope to share not just a beautifully crafted tea, but a moment of connection — with flavour, culture, and each other.” The rename also caps off a banner year for CHAGEE’s international expansion. With successful entries into Indonesia and the United States, and more stores launching across APAC, BO·YA is set to lead the way — not just as a drink, but as a symbol of CHAGEE’s evolving global identity. This initiative is designed to raise early awareness, promote timely screening, and provide accessible, professional care to help Malaysians reverse prediabetes before it becomes a lifelong condition. As part of this commitment, Alpro is offering 10,000 free HbA1c tests to high-risk individuals across more than 300 Alpro touchpoints nationwide, from April through June 2025. With a focus on those with a family history of diabetes and those at higher risk due to age or weight, the ASAP Programme empowers individuals to take proactive steps towards better health. Through early detection and pharmacist-led counseling, nutrition guidance, and lifestyle modifications, participants can potentially reverse their condition. Beyond individual action, the programme also reinforces the vital role that primary care providers—including community pharmacists, community nutritionists and dietitians, and general practitioners—play in delivering preventive healthcare directly to the public. By bringing early intervention into the heart of the community, the programme ensures that help is accessible, timely, and coordinated. This national effort is made possible through a strong multidisciplinary collaboration between Alpro Pharmacy, Merck Sdn. Bhd., University of Malaya, Yuwell Malaysia, Ethos Healthcare, and Powerlife Malaysia. United by a shared vision for preventive healthcare, these partners bring together medical innovation, digital health tools, academic research, and nutritional science to combat one of Malaysia’s most pressing chronic health challenges. “Prediabetes is not a life sentence—it’s a second chance,” said Ph. Lim En Ni, Chief Pharmacist and Engagement Director of Alpro Pharmacy. “Through the ASAP Programme, we’re reaching people before diabetes does—offering them the tests, intervention, and ongoing support they need to make lasting changes. Our aim is to stop diabetes before it starts.” For Merck Sdn. Bhd., the programme aligns with its commitment to early intervention in chronic disease.“The ASAP Programme puts prevention into action—on the ground, led by pharmacists,” said Ms. Pixie Yee, Managing Director of Merck Malaysia and General Manager of Merck Healthcare Malaysia and Singapore. “It’s meaningful because it reaches people before complications begin. As healthcare leaders, we must shift the focus from delayed treatment to early empowerment.” A core component of the campaign is a research collaboration with the University of Malaya to evaluate the impact of pharmacist-led interventions in identifying and managing prediabetes. The study explores how HbA1c screening, paired with pharmacological and lifestyle guidance, can delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. Findings are expected to help shape future national healthcare strategies and support the standardisation of pharmacy-based chronic disease prevention in Malaysia. “This campaign is more than awareness—it’s a chance to validate the impact of pharmacists in chronic disease prevention,” said Professor Dr. Hasniza, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Malaya. The ASAP Programme aims to amplify a clear and urgent public health message: prediabetes is reversible, early action matters, and no one should wait for symptoms before seeking help. With professional support and free screening made easily available across the country, this campaign proves that diabetes can be stopped—before it starts. Malaysians are encouraged to participate by visiting any Alpro Pharmacy outlet during the campaign period.
