SMART launches new research group WISDOM to pioneer technologies that will help machines “see” like humans

Multi-million-dollar, three-and-a-half-year programme to advance Singapore’s optoelectronics and photonics capabilities and semiconductor industry, which generated over S$133 billion in 2023 and accounts for approximately 7% of Singapore’s GDP Bringing together over 20 Singapore and US-based researchers, this is the first time a programme will study the combination of three integral components: optics, optoelectronics and electronics WISDOM supports Singapore’s Future of Microelectronics (FME) national initiative, and has key partnerships with leading research institutions including the National Semiconductor Translation and Innovation Centre (NSTIC) The IRG’s research endeavours are expected to benefit industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, healthcare, and space travel and sample collection – including applications in autonomous driving, augmented reality, robotics and high-speed data communication SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 7 May 2025 – Imagine creating 3D-sensing technologies so lightweight, compact and high-performance that they could take us to planets beyond Mars. The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) research enterprise in Singapore, has launched a new interdisciplinary research group (IRG) focused on developing next-generation 3D-sensing technologies for practical use across industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, aerospace and healthcare, among others. Wafer-scale Integrated Sensing Devices based on Optoelectronic Metasurfaces (WISDOM) Jointly led by faculty from MIT and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the Wafer-scale Integrated Sensing Devices based on Optoelectronic Metasurfaces (WISDOM) IRG will focus on developing ultra-thin, scalable sensing devices – systems that allow machines such as autonomous vehicles and robots to perceive depth, shape and spatial detail safely and with more versatility, much like human vision. 3-Dimensional (3D) sensing is essential for many modern applications, from autonomous vehicles and robotics to augmented reality and medical diagnostics. However, current systems still fall short of human-like perception capabilities, which pose limitations such as contextual unawareness and decision errors. Today’s optical systems are also often bulky, expensive and difficult to mass-produce due to reliance on complex components and manual assembly. While new materials called optoelectronic metasurfaces — which are ultra-thin and can control light in powerful new ways — show great potential, it has been difficult so far to turn them into practical, widely used products, due to challenges in how these materials are combined with other technologies and manufactured at large scale. To solve the challenges, WISDOM aims to develop compact solutions that are high performance, and enable optoelectronic metasurfaces to be manufactured using standard semiconductor processes and ready for mass-market adoption. SMART WISDOM will be helmed by Co-Lead Principal Investigators Prof Juejun Hu, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, and Prof Tan Chuan-Seng, Professor of Electronic Engineering at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at NTU Singapore. “What makes me really excited about WISDOM is that we’re putting together pieces that haven’t been combined before – to benefit a ton of industries and use cases. For example, think how a super light and powerful LiDAR system could make trips to planets beyond Mars a reality. It’s like having a whole new set of eyes for exploration, and about making the seemingly impossible, possible,” said Prof Juejun Hu, Co-Lead Principal Investigator, WISDOM. Combining expertise from five leading institutions SMART brings together top researchers from leading institutions in the United States and Singapore, including MIT, NTU Singapore, National University of Singapore (NUS), Stanford University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), to redefine how optical metasurfaces are designed, integrated and manufactured. This multi-million, multi-year effort, supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) Singapore under its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) programme, brings together leading experts across disciplines in photonics, materials science and semiconductor engineering to position Singapore at the forefront of global innovation in sensing technologies and advanced manufacturing. World-first approach to pioneering 3D-sensing and next-generation applications WISDOM will capitalise on wafer-scale integration using standard silicon complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) processes to revolutionise how meta-optical systems are produced. This is the first time a programme is put together to study the combination of these three separate elements: optical metasurfaces, optoelectronic devices with a focus on light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and vertical surface emitting laser arrays (VCSELs); and silicon CMOS electronics. At the heart of WISDOM’s pioneering research is their world-first approach that integrates the three elements into a wafer-scale platform. This tri-element integration seeks to unlock entirely new functionalities in optical metasurface technology, enabling next-generation sensing systems with multi-modal illumination and detection, advanced displays with built-in high-speed communication, and biomedical devices with versatile light sources for diagnostics and therapeutics. WISDOM’s work to bridge these complementary technologies will pioneer a new frontier in integrated optoelectronics, creating solutions that were previously unattainable with conventional approaches. “The launch of WISDOM marks an exciting chapter in SMART’s and MIT’s long legacy in Singapore – bringing together the best in their fields from US, Singapore and the region for interdisciplinary research and collaboration to drive world-class research and innovation with commercial and societal impact for Singapore and beyond. The first-of-its-kind research will pioneer groundbreaking advancements for next-generation sensing systems, enabling transformative solutions across industries such as automotive, healthcare, aerospace and consumer electronics,” said Bruce Tidor, Chief Executive Officer and Director (Interim), SMART. WISDOM’s inaugural project aims to develop a high-performance, metasurface-enabled LiDAR prototype, addressing key challenges in scalability, integration and performance. By combining metasurface optics, optoelectronic devices, and CMOS electronics on a single silicon substrate, WISDOM seeks to redefine the capabilities of LiDAR systems. This innovation promises to enhance detection accuracy, extend range and field-of-view, and reduce motion artifacts, with transformative implications for industries such as automotive, healthcare, robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Beyond improving safety in autonomous vehicles and navigation in drones, it also opens doors to revolutionary applications like glasses-free 3D displays and high-speed optical communication, laying the groundwork for smarter, more efficient technologies that will shape the future. “WISDOM represents a paradigm shift in how meta-optical systems are integrated – from discrete assembly to wafer-scale packaging. Even at the research stage, we have a clear objective to bring our innovations to market and societal impact – enabling transformative sensing

Coenda Clarifies Inaccuracies in Recent INEO Tech Corp. Disclosure

Surrey, British Columbia – Newsfile Corp. – 6 May 2025 – Coenda Investments Holding Corp. (“Coenda“), a significant shareholder of INEO Tech Corp. (TSXV: INEO) (OTCQB: INEOF) (“INEO“), issues this press release to correct several inaccuracies contained in the recent disclosure by INEO dated April 28, 2025. Coenda firmly believes that rigorous corporate governance and regulatory compliance are foundational to long-term shareholder value creation. During preliminary discussions about Coenda’s strategic investment in INEO, Coenda highlighted concerns to INEO’s management about its growth strategy, but after nearly a year of discussions, Coenda was convinced of the merits of INEO’s product and service offering. Coenda chose to make a significant investment in INEO based on the strength of INEO’s product and service offering, and with the mutual understanding that: There was a need to strengthen INEO’s board by bringing on new members who could play a proactive role in INEO’s global growth, oversight of management, and adherence to good governance practices; INEO’s management team would need to be strengthened by adding additional depth to grow in global markets; and, INEO would be fully transparent in the use of the proceeds of Coenda’s investment. Over the past quarter, in countless meetings, Coenda has worked tirelessly to implement the changes that it identified to INEO’s management before Coenda made its investment. Coenda has also sought information from INEO about the use of the proceeds of Coenda’s investment. At all times, Coenda’s objective in making its strategic investment, and in taking an active role in facilitating the changes identified to INEO’s management, was to grow INEO and enhance shareholder value. Despite Coenda’s patient efforts to implement the changes that were contemplated as part of Coenda’s strategic investment, Coenda has been met with resistance from INEO’s management team. Following the appointment of Coenda’s nominee (Mr. Kerem Akbas) to the board of INEO, it became apparent that important corporate formalities, such as board approval of financial statements and timely filing of continuous disclosure, were not being followed. Consequently, Coenda delivered a requisition for a shareholder meeting, to be held on an urgent basis, to ascertain the root cause for INEO’s corporate and regulatory non-compliances. Coenda also gave notice of its desire to change the then-current board members except for Mr. Akbas (i.e. Greg Watkins, Kyle Hall, and Steve Matyas). On the date that Coenda’s requisition was delivered, it had not, and as of the date of this press release, Coenda has not identified or proposed a slate of directors to replace Mssrs. Watkins, Hall, and Matyas. Coenda has not, and does not presently intend before the shareholder meeting scheduled for August 8, 2025, to acquire any additional securities in INEO. Similarly, Coenda has not, and does not presently intend to publicly solicit proxies with respect to the proposals it has advanced for the upcoming shareholder meeting. Coenda reaffirms its position that the proposed board changes are solely intended to address governance and compliance issues and are not part of any broader strategy or intention to acquire further shares or influence corporate control. Coenda notes the following corrections to INEO’s press release dated April 28, 2025: Assurances Regarding Board Changes: Coenda never provided assurances that it would not seek changes to the board. On the contrary, pursuant to an investor’s rights agreement approved by the shareholders of INEO, one condition of Coenda’s investment was altering INEO’s board composition to permit the appointment of Coenda’s nominee, Mr. Kerem Akbas. Any representations made to the TSX by INEO were made without Coenda’s consent. Strategic Investment: Coenda’s investment in INEO was intended to bolster INEO’s finances and to strategically strengthen its competitiveness. At all times, Coenda has been actively involved in the governance and affairs of INEO, and it was a condition of Coenda’s investment that it would be entitled to at least one board seat. Mr. Akbas, the primary shareholder of Coenda, has extensive global experience in INEO’s industry. Mr. Akbas has offered his wealth of knowledge to INEO to maximize long-term shareholder value, including by bringing a significant contract, making introductions to a credible producer, and facilitating a world-class sales channel partnership. Regrettably, Mr. Akbas’ queries, suggestions, and proposals have, to date, been met with significant resistance from INEO. Incomplete Disclosure of Coenda’s Requisition: The full text of Coenda’s requisition, which provides context and the basis for the resolutions proposed by Coenda, has not been disclosed to shareholders by INEO. Coenda expects that the full text of its requisition will be provided to all shareholders in the company’s information circular as required by Sections 167(5)(b) and 167(6)(b) of the British Columbia Business Corporations Act. Coenda’s Incorporation and History: Coenda was incorporated on January 11, 2022. Contrary to INEO’s characterization, Coenda is not a recently formed investment company. Disclosure Obligations on Director Resignation: INEO incorrectly characterized the resignation of Eugene Syho, a director and Chair of the Audit Committee, as non-material. Under TSX Venture Exchange policies 3.1 and 3.3, issuers must immediately disclose changes in directors. INEO first disclosed Mr. Syho’s resignation in an unrelated press release on February 11, 2025, “INEO Announces Deployment of Retail Media Technology with Leading Turkish Retailer Bambi, via Partner Bon Intelligence.” To date, no material change report regarding Mr. Syho’s resignation has been filed, despite Coenda’s repeated requests. Unanimous Consent Required Under BC Business Corporations Act and INEO’s Articles: Coenda clarifies that under the British Columbia Business Corporations Act and INEO’s articles, for a written resolution to be effective in lieu of a meeting, directors must unanimously consent. The resolution approving INEO’s interim financial reports and the related management discussion and analysis for the period ending December 31, 2024, and authorizing filing thereof, were not approved unanimously as required. Mr. Akbas, in his capacity as director of INEO, did not sign or assent to the proposed consent resolution because he was not provided with a copy of the audit committee’s resolution recommending approval referred to in the proposed director resolution until April 21, 2025. The filing of INEO’s interim financial statements and management

BNM’s Policy Rate Call Looms: Octa Broker Highlights Inflation, Exchange Rate and Trade Challenges

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 6 May 2025 – This Thursday, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will announce its policy rate decision. While most analysts expect no change, Octa Broker suggests that a rate cut is on the table and is highly likely to take place later this year due to subdued inflation, stronger ringgit, and a higher likelihood for Fed rate cuts. On Thursday, 8 May, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the nation’s central bank, will reveal its policy rate decision. Like most other central banks around the world, BNM strives to maintain a balance between low inflation and sustainable economic growth. Its key monetary policy instrument is the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR). By adjusting the OPR, BNM influences interest rates throughout the Malaysian economy, impacting borrowing costs for businesses and consumers and ultimately influencing economic activity and inflation. Malaysia inflation and interest rate vs USDMYR exchange rate Source: LSEG BNM has kept its OPR stable since May 2023, when it surprisingly raised it to 3.00% in response to persistently high inflation amid solid household spending and tight labour market conditions. Since then, the economy has not really slowed much, so BNM has kept its base rate unchanged for almost two years now. This stance distinguishes it from its regional counterparts – Bank Indonesia, the Bank of Thailand, the Philippine central bank, and the Bank of Korea – all of which have lowered interest rates to stimulate economic growth. In fact, the latest official figures showed that Malaysia’s economy showed surprising strength in Q4 2024. Gross domestic product (GDP) outperformed both official estimates and market expectations, growing by 5% year-on-year in Q4 2024. According to BNM, the GDP growth was driven by robust domestic demand, strong investment, and recovering exports. Meanwhile, national inflation has continued to decelerate, with Consumer Price Index (CPI) hitting a three-year low of just 1.4% in March 2025. Indeed, even with reduced government subsidies for diesel, electricity, and chicken, overall inflation has been successfully managed, potentially allowing the BNM to cut its base rate later this year. However, an overwhelming majority of economists polled by Reuters see no policy change this year, suggesting the central bank will wait and see how external and domestic factors unfold. “The Malaysian economy is doing rather well, but major risks lie ahead, particularly stemming from its high degree of openness. With global trade tensions rising, Malaysia interconnectedness and integration into the global supply chain could exert a negative impact on GDP”, says Kar Yong Ang, a financial market analyst at Octa Broker. Indeed, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia recorded a trade surplus of 24.72 billion ringgit in March, well above the poll forecast of a 13.8 billion ringgit surplus. Most importantly, Malaysia’s exports to the United States rose to a record high of 22.66 billion ringgit ($5.14 billion) in March, a 50.8% increase from a year earlier, buoyed by strong demand for electrical and electronics products. However, with the United States introducing import duties on Malaysia as well as on Malaysia’s key trading partners – particularly, China – the strong pace of exports may not last. BNM has recognized this risk in its latest statement: “The growth outlook is subject to downside risks from an economic slowdown in major trading partners amid heightened risk of trade and investment restrictions, and lower-than-expected commodity production”. Although the market largely expects the BNM to keep its base rate unchanged for the 11th consecutive time on Thursday, Octa Broker analysts argue that the chances of a rate cut have increased particularly because the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) may also be willing to cut the rates soon. “With inflation subdued, USDMYR trading at a seven-month low, and rising expectations for a dovish Fed, I think BNM is seriously thinking about when it may need to cut the rates”, says Kar Yong Ang. Indeed, after last week’s U.S. GDP data came below expectation, the risk of recession in the U.S. has increased and the market is now pricing in a 47% of 50 basis points (bps) worth of rate cuts by the Fed by the end of Q3 2025. The dovish Fed may put an additional bearish pressure on USDMYR, highly improving the probability of an eventual BNM rate cut. ___ Disclaimer: This content is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice, a recommendation, or an offer to engage in any investment activity. Singapore Celebrates 60 Years of Independence with an Enticing Multisensory Pavilion ‘RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA’ at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025

Celebrate Singapore’s Superdiversity by experiencing a thousand worlds in one Singapore RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA brings superdiversity to the table, through a dynamic exhibition that reimagines city-making through food, culture, and collective design SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 6 May 2025 – In celebration of Singapore’s 60th year of independence (SG60), the Singapore Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025 invites visitors to take a seat at the Table of Superdiversity—an enticing reimagination of city-making and nation-building through the universal act of dining. Titled RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA, the Pavilion reinterprets the Latin notion of tabula rasa (a blank slate) as a multisensory experience. Here, RASA (taste in Malay), TABULA (table in Latin), and SINGAPURA (Lion City in Sanskrit) converge as a metaphor for Singapore’s distinctive identity, shaped by centuries of movement, exchange, and reinvention. Commissioned by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) and the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), the Singapore Pavilion is organised by the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and is curated by a multidisciplinary team from SUTD: Prof. Tai Lee Siang, Prof. Khoo Peng Beng, Prof. Dr. Erwin Viray, Dr. Jason Lim, Asst. Prof. Dr. Immanuel Koh, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sam Conrad Joyce. The Pavilion uses dining—one of Singapore’s beloved national pastimes—as a curatorial lens to explore how architecture, policy, and participatory design intersect in the everyday lives of Singaporeans. Through a curated menu of architectural and urban planning projects, RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA offers visitors a ‘taste’ of Singapore, by engaging with the key ingredients that shape its built environment. ‘Main courses’ highlight key developments and districts such as Pinnacle@Duxton, an iconic public housing development in Singapore, that reflects Singapore’s innovative approach to urban growth and transformation; while ‘side dishes’ showcase innovations in design, policy, and community-building, which contribute to Singapore’s strength as a multicultural society. The Pavilion’s tablescape reflects and applies the theme of Biennale curator Carlo Ratti—Intelligens: Natural. Artificial. Collective.—to Singapore’s context. Building on the word ‘intelligence’ and the Latin word ‘gens’, which means ‘people’, the Pavilion seeks to express Singapore’s superdiversity by illustrating how the convergence of global and local influences, complex data, as well as myriad flows of people, goods, ideas and innovations, collectively shapes Singapore’s unique identity and the way we rethink the built environment. “Illustrating Singapore’s superdiversity, we are highlighting seven ‘main courses’ at RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA—each offering a taste of how Singapore plans for life at every scale. At Pinnacle@Duxton, we explored vertical living as a framework for superdiversity—where density, design, and innovation come together in the sky. Moving from single developments to district-scale planning, projects like Tengah and Changi Airport demonstrate how Singapore applies the same design sensibility to shaping entire ecosystems of liveability and movement. These ideas continue through our research and teaching at SUTD, where planning for the future means designing for complexity. It’s one expression of a city always planning ahead, always becoming,” said Prof. Khoo Peng Beng, Co-Curator for the Singapore Pavilion, head of the Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar at SUTD and a recipient of the President’s Design Award. Another key example on display on the dining table is CapitaSpring, a 280-metre-tall tropical high-rise in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District that exemplifies the city’s progressive planning. The biophilic spectacle is a showcase of Singapore’s Landscaping for Urban Spaces and High-Rises (LUSH) policy—requiring developers to replace greenery lost on the ground with vertical landscapes. Over 80,000 plants are woven into the tower’s fabric, including a soaring four-storey Green Oasis 100 metres above ground, one of Singapore’s highest that is publicly accessible in commercial buildings. Through the exhibition’s interactive installations and vibrant dining-inspired setting, RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA brings this urban feast to life, inviting visitors to consider how collective views on natural, artificial, and social aspects can shape spaces that reflect shared needs, values, and aspirations. The Pavilion becomes a living forum where visitors can discover how design, data, and diversity converge to craft Singapore’s evolving cityscape and its underpinning interconnected systems. “Through thoughtful urban planning and design, we create environments that inspire and support how we live, work, play, and connect. In a land-scarce city like Singapore, we need to balance density, diversity, and design. Planning policies, cultural values, environmental priorities, and community needs are considered and integrated to create and shape spaces that are inclusive, resilient and adaptable. RASA-TABULA-SINGAPURA offers a sensory map of that approach, inviting visitors to experience the thoughtful processes that have shaped our nation’s transformation in the last 60 years. It is not just a showcase of what we have built, but also a reflection of how we imagine—and continue to reimagine—our future,” said Yap Lay Bee, Co-Commissioner of the Singapore Pavilion and Group Director (Architecture & Urban Design) of URA. “As a nation by design, Singapore’s socio-economic needs, demographics, policies, and spatial negotiations have guided our urban planning. Such intelligence not only reflects our design-led development for the last 60 years, but will continue to chart the course for our future. Centring on the concept of superdiversity, this year’s Singapore Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale showcases how the convergence of unique multicultural differences, collective histories, design and new technology offers opportunities for more inclusive, adaptive urban futures,” said Dawn Lim, Co-Commissioner of the Singapore Pavilion and Executive Director of Dsg. The Singapore Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025 will be held from 9 May 2025 to 23 November 2025. Visit https://singaporepavilion.sg/ for more information.
