MANILA: Brandy and whisky giant Emperador Inc. has strengthened its premium liquor portfolio with a P225-million acquisition of a Mexican mezcal producer, reinforcing its global expansion strategy.
In a stock exchange filing last Friday, the company, led by billionaire Andrew Tan, announced that its Mexican subsidiary, Casa Pedro Domecq, had acquired a 60% stake in Los Danzantes SA de CV.
The capital infusion, equivalent to 80 million Mexican pesos, will primarily support the distribution and promotion of Los Danzantes’ brands. Among them are Los Danzantes and Alipus, both ranked among the world’s top 10 bestselling mezcal brands, Emperador stated in its disclosure.
Los Danzantes’ products are currently exported to approximately 20 countries.
