Homegrown Malaysian Comedy Icon Prakash Daniel Brings Internationally Acclaimed ‘Lobster Boy’ Home After Sold-Out Australia Tour

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, After a successful run across major Australian cities, Malaysia’s very own “bearded funny man,” Prakash Daniel, is bringing his hit solo comedy show Lobster Boy back to local stages this August. Presented by LOL Asia, the highly anticipated multi-city Malaysian tour promises the same sharp wit, nostalgic charm, and heartfelt storytelling that captivated audiences Down Under.

Following sold-out performances in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth earlier this year, Lobster Boy now heads home, offering Malaysian fans an intimate and hilarious glimpse into Prakash’s life, laced with his trademark streetwise humour and 90s nostalgia.

Inspired by his childhood in Jalan Udang Galah (Lobster Street), Segambut, Lobster Boy is Prakash’s most personal show yet. He takes audiences on a laugh-packed journey through the highs and lows of growing up as a Malaysian Indian in a lower middle-class family – weaving stories of identity, self-discovery, friendship, trauma, and healing.

“Growing up in the 90s was chaotic but unforgettable. We didn’t have Wi-Fi, but we had pirated VHS tapes, mismatched sneakers, and enough neighbourhood drama to fill a soap opera,” shares Prakash. “Lobster Boy is a tribute to those days – and to anyone who’s ever felt out of place.”

Blending real Malaysian experiences – from mamak stall encounters to wedding dramas and family expectations – Prakash delivers laughs rooted in everyday moments. Known for his relatable, sometimes self-deprecating style, he’s the classic black sheep with a mic, turning life’s awkwardness into comedy gold.

More Than a Comedian – A Cultural Voice

Offstage, Prakash is a visual storyteller, fashion lover, and sneakerhead whose creative work spans art, photography, and performance. His unique lens on life’s absurdities, even in difficult times, adds depth and humanity to his comedy.

LOL Asia CEO Rizal Kamal praised Prakash’s international success:
“For years, we’ve worked to grow Southeast Asia’s comedy scene, and watching talents like Prakash shine globally is a proud moment. Malaysian comedians aren’t just funny – they’re cultural ambassadors proving that our humour resonates worldwide. It’s time we celebrate them as national icons putting Malaysia on the global comedy map.”
